Salesforce Q2 FY2027: Agentforce AWUs +97% QoQ, Claudeforce Announced With Anthropic

TL;DR - Q2 FY2027 revenue $11.35B (+11% YoY, record); GAAP EPS $4.29 (+119% YoY), almost entirely driven by a $2.6B pre-tax Anthropic investment gain recognized in the income statement; underlying GAAP EPS ex-gain is estimated at approximately $2.09–$2.19, a roughly 6–12% increase year-over-year. - Agentforce AWUs surged 97% quarter-over-quarter to 3.2 billion; Agentforce ARR $1.5B (>240% YoY from $441M); AI & Data ARR approaching $4B. - FY2027 revenue guidance raised to $46.1–$46.4B, both ends up from the prior $45.9–$46.2B range; Claudeforce announced with 37 pre-built sales skills, pilot starting Q3 FY2027. - CRM shares +13–14% in after-hours trading on the combined results and Anthropic partnership announcement.

Part A — Q2 FY2027 Financial Snapshot

MetricQ2 FY2027Q2 FY2026YoY
Total Revenue$11.35B$10.24B+11%
Subscription & Support$10.82B~$9.71B+11%
GAAP EPS (diluted)$4.29$1.96+119%
Non-GAAP Operating Margin34.1%
Free Cash Flow$1.1B
cRPO$33.5B+14% cc

Note on GAAP EPS: The $4.29 GAAP EPS includes a $2.6 billion pre-tax gain on Salesforce's Anthropic investment, recognized in the income statement under ASC 321. This non-operational gain is the primary driver of the +119% year-over-year EPS increase. At Salesforce's approximate share count and tax rate, the Anthropic gain contributes an estimated $2.10–$2.20 per share to GAAP EPS, implying underlying ex-gain GAAP EPS of approximately $2.09–$2.19 — a roughly 6–12% year-over-year increase from $1.96, consistent with revenue growth of 11%. Salesforce's Q3 FY2027 non-GAAP EPS guidance of $3.42–$3.44 represents the company's forward operational commitment. Non-GAAP EPS differs from GAAP EPS primarily because it adds back stock-based compensation and amortization of acquired intangibles — non-cash costs that reduce reported earnings but are excluded by convention. The full GAAP-to-non-GAAP reconciliation is published in the earnings press release (Salesforce IR, listed in the Sources section at the end of this article).

Subscription Revenue (Reorganized Segments)

Salesforce reorganized its subscription and support revenue ($10.82B of the total $11.35B; remaining ~$530M is professional services) into two reporting buckets:

  • Agentforce Apps (approx. $7.2B): Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing, Commerce, and Slack.
  • Data 360 & Headless Platform (approx. $3.6B): Data Cloud, Platform, MuleSoft, Tableau, and Informatica.

The two segments sum to approximately $10.8B, consistent with total subscription revenue of $10.82B at this level of rounding.

Guidance Raised

PeriodRevenue GuidanceNon-GAAP EPS Guidance
Q3 FY2027$11.42–$11.50B$3.42–$3.44
FY2027 (full year)$46.1–$46.4Bnon-GAAP op. margin ~34.3% (no full-year EPS guide issued)

Both ends of the full-year revenue range moved up from the prior $45.9–$46.2B guidance. Q3 cRPO is guided to grow approximately 14% year-over-year (constant currency), consistent with Q2's constant-currency pace.

Part B — What Investors Need to Know

1. The $2.6B Anthropic Gain: Large, Non-Recurring, and Strategically Entangled

Salesforce is an early Anthropic investor. The $2.6 billion pre-tax gain recognized this quarter reflects appreciation in Anthropic's fair value above Salesforce's cost basis, recognized in the income statement under ASC 321. Salesforce has not publicly disclosed its Anthropic stake size or cost basis; additional details are expected in Salesforce's own future 10-Q and annual filings.

Understanding the gain matters for two reasons:

Scale of the impact: The Anthropic gain accounts for an estimated $2.10–$2.20 per share of GAAP EPS, making it responsible for nearly all of the reported +119% year-over-year increase. The ex-gain underlying GAAP EPS is approximately $2.09–$2.19. The underlying operational business, growing revenue at 11% with a 34.1% non-GAAP operating margin, is generating strong but less dramatic year-over-year improvements in earnings.

Strategic entanglement: The Claudeforce partnership (section 3) means Anthropic is simultaneously a financial holding and Salesforce's primary AI model provider. Future changes in Anthropic's implied valuation — whether from a public offering, a down round, or a valuation re-rating — would directly affect Salesforce's reported earnings while also signaling the health of the commercial relationship.

2. Agentforce AWUs: Record Quarter, With a Monetization Question

AWU MetricQ2 FY2027Change
AWUs in Q23.2 billion+97% quarter-over-quarter
Cumulative AWUs (all-time)7.0 billion
Q2 share of cumulative~46%
Agentforce ARR$1.5B+25% vs. Q1's $1.2B
Agentforce ARR YoY>240%
AI & Data ARR~$4BApproaching

Agentforce launched in late 2024 and has accumulated 7.0 billion cumulative AWUs over approximately eight quarters, with Q2 representing its single largest quarter (approximately 46% of the all-time cumulative).

The 97% quarter-over-quarter AWU surge addresses the "SaaSpocalypse" thesis — the concern that autonomous AI agents would replace per-seat CRM licenses. CEO Marc Benioff argued on the call that customers are adding agent spend on top of existing seats, not replacing them, with cRPO of $33.5B (+14% constant currency) as supporting evidence.

The monetization question: Agentforce ARR (an annualized run-rate metric) grew 25% quarter-over-quarter ($1.2B → $1.5B) while AWUs (a quarterly consumption flow) grew 97%. Because ARR and AWUs measure different things, they cannot be directly divided into a unit price, but the divergence in growth rates — ARR growing roughly one-quarter as fast as consumption — suggests that volume is scaling faster than contracted revenue. How Salesforce prices Claudeforce skills — the first Agentforce product under a co-branded partnership — will be a key test of whether ARR and AWU growth rates converge.

3. Claudeforce: 37 Skills, September Beta, No Price Yet

Claudeforce, announced August 26, 2026 (Q3 FY2027), is a co-branded product with Anthropic. It has two tracks:

Salesforce in Claude: A plugin for Anthropic's Claude Cowork environment with 37 pre-built sales skills — meeting preparation, deal health review, pipeline analysis — enabling sellers to query, update, and act on live CRM data without opening Salesforce. Pilot customers begin access in Q3; open beta planned for September 2026. Pricing not yet disclosed.

Claude in Salesforce: Claude serves as the default model for the Atlas Reasoning Engine, Agentforce Coworker, and Agentforce Vibes. Slack embeds Claude as its default AI backbone for team collaboration and autonomous actions.

The product logic: by embedding Salesforce's data and governance as the substrate beneath Claude's interface, Salesforce retains relevance even as Claude becomes the default enterprise AI interface. A seller talking to Claude still depends on Salesforce's CRM architecture to act on anything. Salesforce has indicated it plans to expand the skill library beyond the initial 37 to cover additional business functions in coming quarters.

4. Three Watch Points for Q3

Watch PointWhat to Look For
Claudeforce pricing and ARRWhen open beta converts to paid in Q3, watch whether Agentforce ARR growth and AWU growth rates begin to converge. A sustained gap (volume outpacing ARR) would indicate pricing pressure; convergence would suggest Claudeforce commands the ARR uplift Salesforce needs.
Normalized EPS run rateQ3 non-GAAP EPS is guided at $3.42–$3.44 (adding back SBC and amortization vs. GAAP, and excluding investment gains). This is the forward operational commitment per Salesforce's own guidance. Any gap between guided and actual Q3 non-GAAP EPS would signal operational outperformance or underperformance relative to guidance (note: investment gains/losses on strategic investments are excluded from non-GAAP EPS and would appear in GAAP results, not in the non-GAAP gap).
H2 margin at ~34.15%Full-year non-GAAP margin is guided at 34.3%. With Q1 at 34.8% and Q2 at 34.1% (H1 average 34.45%), H2 margins need to average approximately 34.15% — providing limited room for AI infrastructure cost overruns.
