Orion (271560.KS) Q1 2026: Profit Surges 26% Despite Cocoa Spike
Overseas operating leverage converts 16% revenue growth into a 26% operating profit surge, lifting margins to 17.8% — an unusual outcome given that cocoa and palm oil costs are in a multi-year global spike.

Orion's first quarter of 2026 delivered one of the cleanest operating leverage outcomes in the Korean consumer staples sector in recent memory: a 16.0% increase in consolidated revenue to ₩930.4 billion translated into a 26.0% surge in operating profit to ₩165.5 billion, lifting the operating margin by 1.4 percentage points to 17.8%. This outperformance is particularly striking in the context of a severe commodity cost environment — imported palm oil unit prices have risen more than 100% over the past two years, and global cocoa markets remain in supply-driven dislocation. The company defended margins not through domestic price increases but through the natural operating leverage of expanding offshore production volumes in China and Vietnam. With no interest-bearing financial debt on its books and liquid assets of ₩1,430.7 billion (cash plus short-term financial deposits), Orion's balance sheet is among the most conservatively structured of any major Korean FMCG producer.
