關於Uber Technologies

Uber Technologies operates a global platform connecting consumers with transportation and delivery services, organized around three reportable segments: Mobility, Delivery, and Freight. Mobility encompasses ridesharing, taxi partnerships, rentals, and increasingly integrated transit and two-wheel options, while Delivery covers restaurant meal delivery under the Uber Eats brand alongside grocery, retail, and alcohol categories. Freight operates a digital brokerage matching shippers with carriers in the trucking market. Mobility generates the bulk of segment profit and remains the highest-margin business, with Delivery contributing a growing share as scale improves unit economics. Freight has historically operated at thinner margins and is more exposed to trucking-cycle swings than the consumer platforms.

Investors track driver and courier supply dynamics against consumer demand, since incentive spending on either side of the marketplace directly shapes take rates and contribution margin. Regulatory classification of drivers as independent contractors versus employees remains the defining structural exposure, litigated jurisdiction by jurisdiction across the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. Other durable questions include insurance cost inflation in the U.S. mobility book, the pace and terms of autonomous-vehicle partnerships, the trajectory of advertising revenue on the platform, capital return policy following the initiation of buybacks, and concentration risk in a handful of large metropolitan markets that account for a disproportionate share of gross bookings.

Uber was founded in 2009 in San Francisco by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp, originally as UberCab offering black-car service before pivoting to peer-to-peer ridesharing with the launch of UberX in 2012. The company expanded aggressively into international markets and adjacent verticals, launching Uber Eats in 2014 and Uber Freight in 2017. A series of market exits followed, selling the China business to Didi in 2016, Southeast Asia operations to Grab in 2018, and the self-driving unit ATG to Aurora in 2020. Dara Khosrowshahi succeeded Kalanick as chief executive in 2017, and Uber completed its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in May 2019. The Postmates acquisition closed in 2020, consolidating its U.S. delivery position.

Uber earns revenue primarily by taking a service fee from gross bookings on each Mobility trip and Delivery order, with the balance flowing to drivers, couriers, and merchants; Freight recognizes revenue on the full shipment value as principal. Its competitive position rests on network density, brand, cross-product membership through Uber One, and the operational sophistication of matching supply with demand in real time. Principal rivals include Lyft in U.S. rideshare, DoorDash and Grubhub in U.S. delivery, Deliveroo and Just Eat Takeaway in Europe, and Didi and Grab in Asian markets Uber has largely exited but retains equity stakes in. The United States and Canada account for a substantial share of gross bookings, with a meaningful minority from the United Kingdom, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific.
