關於AT&T

AT&T is one of the two dominant wireless carriers in the United States, alongside Verizon and T-Mobile, and it also operates one of the country's largest wireline and fiber broadband networks. Its Communications segment houses three businesses: Mobility, which sells postpaid and prepaid wireless service to consumers and enterprises and generates the bulk of company profit; Consumer Wireline, which sells fiber and legacy DSL broadband to households; and Business Wireline, which sells connectivity, voice, and managed services to enterprises and government. A smaller Latin America segment operates wireless service in Mexico under the Unefon and AT&T brands. Mobility service revenue is the profit engine; equipment revenue from handset sales is largely a pass-through.

Serious holders track subscriber economics rather than headline revenue: postpaid phone net additions, churn, and average revenue per user in Mobility, and fiber net additions and penetration in Consumer Wireline. Capital intensity is the other structural question, because sustaining spectrum holdings and fiber build requires heavy ongoing capex, which shapes the dividend and the pace of debt paydown after the WarnerMedia separation. Regulatory exposure runs through the FCC on spectrum auctions and net neutrality, and through state utility commissions on legacy copper retirement. The industry is a rational three-player oligopoly, so competitive behavior at Verizon and T-Mobile, and cable operators' MVNO wireless offerings, materially affect pricing power.

The company traces to Alexander Graham Bell's 1877 Bell Telephone Company, which became American Telephone and Telegraph in 1885 and the regulated Bell System monopoly for most of the twentieth century. The 1984 consent decree broke that system into seven regional Bell operating companies. The modern AT&T was actually built by one of those regionals, Southwestern Bell, which renamed itself SBC, acquired the old AT&T Corp. in 2005, and took its name. It then bought BellSouth in 2006, DirecTV in 2015, and Time Warner in 2018, before reversing course by spinning DirecTV to TPG in 2021 and separating WarnerMedia into Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022.

Mechanically, AT&T sells recurring monthly service. Consumer wireless customers sign up on postpaid plans, typically bundled with a device financed over roughly three years through installment plans, which locks in the relationship without a traditional contract; prepaid customers buy service through the Cricket brand. Fiber customers subscribe to tiered broadband. Enterprise customers buy multi-year connectivity, networking, and mobility contracts, often through direct sales teams. Competitive position rests on network quality, spectrum depth, retail distribution, and increasingly on converged wireless-plus-fiber bundles that raise switching costs where both footprints overlap. Revenue is overwhelmingly domestic U.S., with the Mexican wireless operation contributing a small minority.
