S1 (012750.KS) Q1 2026: 62% Profit Drop on Pension Cost Surge
Revenue held flat while a retirement benefit charge that nearly tripled year-over-year wiped out five percentage points of operating margin, exposing S1's structural vulnerability to labor cost inflation in a headcount-intensive service model.

S1 Corporation entered 2026 with its revenue base largely intact but its income statement in disarray. First-quarter revenue came in at ₩673.7 billion, effectively flat against the year-ago ₩674.1 billion (-0.06%), yet operating profit imploded 62.3% to ₩20.7 billion from ₩55.0 billion, collapsing the operating margin from 8.16% to 3.08%—a 509-basis-point deterioration that marks the company's weakest quarterly profitability in recent memory. The trigger was a ₩28.65 billion retirement benefit expense, up 183% from ₩10.13 billion in Q1 2025, distributed across both cost of revenues and selling, general, and administrative expenses. Net income fell 48.8% to ₩21.5 billion, with diluted EPS halving from ₩1,243 to ₩637. The immediate question facing investors is whether this is a one-quarter anomaly driven by actuarial reassumption or the opening chapter of structural margin compression in a labor-intensive business model that cannot pass wage inflation through to captive customers quickly enough.
