Strykerについて

Stryker Corporation is a medical technology company organized around two reporting segments: MedSurg and Neurotechnology, and Orthopaedics and Spine. The MedSurg side spans surgical equipment and navigation, endoscopy and communications, patient handling and emergency medical equipment (including Stryker-branded stretchers, powered cots and defibrillators), and neurovascular and neurosurgical devices used to treat stroke and brain injury. The Orthopaedics and Spine segment sells hip and knee replacement implants, trauma and extremities hardware, and spinal instrumentation, and includes the Mako robotic-arm platform used to plan and execute joint replacements. Both segments contribute materially to earnings, though the MedSurg and Neurotechnology franchise typically generates the larger share of operating profit.

Serious holders track several structural questions. The customer base is hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and emergency medical services agencies, so pricing power sits against consolidated hospital purchasing groups and against public payer reimbursement schedules for procedures such as total joint replacement. As a Class II and Class III device maker, Stryker carries continuous exposure to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, notified bodies under the European Union Medical Device Regulation, and product-liability litigation tied to implanted hardware. Capital allocation has historically leaned on frequent bolt-on acquisitions financed with a mix of cash and debt, so leverage, integration cadence and goodwill accumulation are recurring topics, alongside index membership in the S&P 500.

The company was founded in 1941 in Kalamazoo, Michigan by orthopaedic surgeon Homer Stryker, initially to commercialize his own inventions including a mobile hospital bed and the oscillating cast-cutting saw. It went public in 1979 and expanded through a long sequence of acquisitions that widened it from a specialty orthopaedics firm into a diversified device platform, most notably the 1998 purchase of Howmedica from Pfizer, which established its scale in hips and knees. Later transactions in neurovascular, endoscopy, communications, spinal implants and, in 2020, the trauma and extremities business Wright Medical extended the portfolio. Headquarters remain in Kalamazoo, and the company is incorporated in Michigan.

Revenue is generated primarily through direct sales forces that call on surgeons, hospital supply chain teams, and EMS agencies, supplemented by distributors in smaller international markets. Implant and capital-equipment sales are typically negotiated under multi-year contracts with integrated delivery networks and group purchasing organizations, while a recurring stream comes from single-use instruments, disposables, service contracts and consumables tied to installed capital equipment such as Mako robots and endoscopy towers. Competitive position rests on surgeon relationships, breadth of the procedural offering, and the pull-through economics of placing capital platforms into hospitals. Principal rivals include Zimmer Biomet, Johnson & Johnson's MedTech unit, Medtronic, Smith+Nephew and Boston Scientific. The United States accounts for the majority of sales, with the balance spread across Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and other international markets.
