Newmontについて
Newmont Corporation is the world's largest gold producer, operating a portfolio of mines across the Americas, Africa, Australia and Papua New Guinea. Its business is the extraction, processing and sale of gold doré and refined gold, with meaningful co-product and by-product output of copper, silver, lead and zinc arising from polymetallic orebodies. Revenue is dominated by gold sales, with base and precious metal by-products contributing a smaller but material share that helps offset unit cash costs. The company sells into bullion markets and to smelters and refiners rather than to end consumers, and gold consistently drives the bulk of segment profitability, while copper has grown in prominence following recent portfolio additions.
Investors track gold and copper price realization, all-in sustaining cost per ounce, reserve life and grade trends, and the pace of depletion against replacement through exploration and acquisition. Jurisdictional exposure matters: operations span politically diverse regions, each with distinct royalty, tax, permitting and community-relations regimes. Capital allocation is closely watched because the board balances a base dividend, a variable gold-price-linked payout, buybacks, sustaining capex and multi-year development projects. Governance features include a dual U.S.–Australian listing, index membership in major benchmarks including the S&P 500, and disclosure under both SEC and Australian frameworks. Cyclicality is inherent, as earnings and cash flow move with metal prices and mine sequencing.
Newmont's origins trace to the Newmont Mining Corporation founded in 1921 by Colonel William Boyce Thompson as a holding company for mining and oil interests, later refocused on hard-rock mining and, decisively, on gold. Through the late twentieth century it built a Nevada gold franchise anchored by the Carlin Trend and expanded internationally, including the transformative 2002 acquisition of Australia's Normandy Mining and Canada's Franco-Nevada mining assets. In 2019 it merged with Goldcorp, adopted the Newmont name in its current form and reincorporated its listing structure. The 2023 acquisition of Newcrest Mining added Australian and Papua New Guinean assets and materially enlarged its copper exposure, producing today's global multi-asset structure.
Mechanically, Newmont sells gold and by-product metals into deep, liquid global markets at prevailing spot-linked prices, with limited hedging of gold; copper and other by-products are typically sold under concentrate offtake agreements with smelters that carry treatment and refining charges. Customers are refiners, bullion banks and industrial smelters rather than retail buyers, so pricing is largely exogenous and competitive position rests on cost per ounce, reserve quality, mine life and operational execution rather than brand or pricing power. Its principal peers include Barrick, Agnico Eagle, AngloGold Ashanti and Gold Fields. Revenue is geographically diversified across North America, South America, Africa and the Asia-Pacific, with no single country dominating output.
