關於TJX Companies

TJX Companies is the largest off-price apparel and home fashions retailer in the world, operating a portfolio of banners that buy branded and designer merchandise opportunistically and sell it at prices well below traditional department stores. The Marmaxx division in the United States, which comprises T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, is by far the largest segment and generates the bulk of consolidated profit. HomeGoods and HomeSense cover the home furnishings category, while TJX Canada (Winners, HomeSense, Marshalls) and TJX International (T.K. Maxx and Homesense in Europe and Australia) round out the group. Sierra, focused on outdoor and active goods, is a smaller banner. Apparel, accessories, footwear and home merchandise together account for essentially all sales.

Serious holders track the health of the merchandise pipeline: because the model depends on buying closeout, cancelled-order and packaway inventory from thousands of vendors, disruptions to brand supply, tariff regimes on imported apparel, and the promotional posture of full-price competitors all matter. Comparable store sales, inventory turns and merchandise margin are the durable operating metrics. Capital allocation has long emphasized steady buybacks and a growing dividend funded by consistent free cash flow. Governance features a conventional board with an independent chair structure in recent years. The company is a component of the S&P 500 and carries meaningful index weight within consumer discretionary and specialty retail.

The business traces to the 1956 founding of the Zayre discount chain in Massachusetts by Max and Morris Feldberg. Zayre Corp. launched T.J. Maxx in 1976 under Ben Cammarata, who became the architect of the off-price format. In 1988 Zayre sold its namesake discount stores to Ames and the following year reorganized as The TJX Companies. HomeGoods opened in 1992, and TJX acquired Winners in Canada in 1990 and the UK-based T.K. Maxx in 1994, extending the format to Europe. The 1995 acquisition of Marshalls from Melville Corporation created the Marmaxx division. HomeSense, Sierra Trading Post (2012) and expansion into Germany, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands and Australia followed.

Customers are predominantly middle-income and increasingly higher-income shoppers who visit stores frequently in search of what the company calls the treasure hunt: a rapidly rotating assortment sourced by a large global buying organization from more than twenty thousand vendors across roughly one hundred countries. There are no long-term supply contracts of consequence; buyers place opportunistic orders throughout the season, and stores receive shipments continuously to keep assortments fresh and inventory lean. Competitive position rests on scale, vendor relationships, a low-cost real-estate footprint and disciplined markdown management, positioning TJX against Ross Stores and Burlington in the U.S. and against full-price department stores globally. The United States generates the substantial majority of revenue, with Canada and international the remainder.
