關於Exxon Mobil

ExxonMobil is one of the world's largest publicly traded integrated oil and gas companies, operating across the full hydrocarbon value chain. Its Upstream segment explores for and produces crude oil and natural gas, with major positions in the U.S. Permian Basin, Guyana's offshore Stabroek block, Qatar LNG, and other international basins. The Energy Products segment refines crude into gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and lubricants sold under the Exxon, Mobil, and Esso brands. Chemical Products manufactures commodity and specialty petrochemicals including polyethylene and polypropylene, while Specialty Products covers lubricants, basestocks, and waxes. Upstream typically drives the bulk of consolidated earnings, though downstream and chemicals provide meaningful diversification when crude margins compress.

Serious holders track ExxonMobil's reserve replacement ratio, finding and development costs, and the trajectory of Permian and Guyana production, since those two basins anchor the growth thesis. Capital allocation discipline is a durable question: management's split among upstream reinvestment, refining and chemical projects, low-carbon ventures, dividends, and buybacks shapes long-run returns. The company is a Dow component and among the largest S&P 500 constituents by market capitalization, giving it heavy index and passive-fund ownership. Regulatory exposure spans climate litigation, methane rules, refinery emissions, and evolving carbon pricing. Cyclicality tied to crude and refining crack spreads, exposure to sovereign counterparties, and the pace of the energy transition remain structural considerations.

The company traces its lineage to John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil, founded in 1870 and broken up by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1911. Two of the successor entities, Standard Oil of New Jersey (later Exxon) and Standard Oil of New York (later Mobil), operated independently for most of the twentieth century, adopting their modern brand names in the 1970s. The 1999 merger of Exxon and Mobil, valued at roughly $80 billion, created ExxonMobil Corporation and remains one of the largest industrial combinations on record. The 2023 acquisition of Pioneer Natural Resources materially expanded the Permian footprint. The parent is incorporated in New Jersey and headquartered in Spring, Texas.

Mechanically, ExxonMobil sells crude and natural gas primarily at benchmark-linked prices to refiners, traders, and utilities, while its refining arm converts hydrocarbons into fuels and feedstocks sold through wholesale channels, branded retail networks, and long-term commercial contracts with airlines, shippers, and industrial buyers. Chemicals move under a mix of contract and spot arrangements to plastics converters and industrial customers. Competitive position rests on scale, integration between upstream and downstream, low-cost resource access in Guyana and the Permian, and proprietary process technology in refining and chemicals. Its principal peers are Chevron, Shell, BP, TotalEnergies, and the national oil companies. Revenue is generated globally, with the United States the single largest market and material exposure across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East.
