About CrowdStrike

CrowdStrike Holdings is a cybersecurity software company built around the Falcon platform, a cloud-native endpoint and workload protection system delivered as software-as-a-service. Falcon is sold as a suite of modules that customers activate individually, spanning endpoint detection and response, next-generation antivirus, identity threat protection, cloud workload security, exposure management, security information and event management, and managed threat hunting. Nearly all revenue comes from subscription contracts to this platform, with a smaller contribution from professional services such as incident response and proactive engagements. Subscription software is the dominant profit engine; the services line functions largely as a channel that seeds platform adoption rather than as an independent margin center.

Investors watch net retention and module attach rates as leading indicators of the land-and-expand model, since expansion within existing customers underwrites much of the growth. Free cash flow conversion, stock-based compensation intensity, and the pace of operating leverage on a large research and sales base are recurring debates. The July 2024 sensor update incident, which triggered a global Windows outage and litigation, made platform resilience and customer-retention aftermath a durable governance topic. Concentration in large enterprise accounts, competitive pressure from Microsoft's bundled security offerings, federal certification status, and the founder-led governance structure with George Kurtz as chief executive round out the standing questions holders track.

CrowdStrike was founded in 2011 by George Kurtz, Dmitri Alperovitch, and Gregg Marston, with Kurtz drawing on his prior tenure as chief technology officer of McAfee. The company built early credibility through high-profile threat intelligence work, including the 2016 attribution of the Democratic National Committee intrusion, and pioneered the delivery of endpoint security as a single-agent cloud service rather than on-premises software. It listed on the Nasdaq in June 2019 under the ticker CRWD. Growth has come primarily organically through Falcon module expansion, supplemented by tuck-in acquisitions in areas such as identity protection, log management, and application security, rather than through large-scale mergers or spin-offs.

Customers span large enterprises, mid-market firms, and government agencies, sold both directly and through a broad channel of resellers, managed security service providers, and cloud marketplaces including AWS. Contracts are typically multi-year subscriptions priced per endpoint per module, so revenue compounds as customers add workloads and layer on additional Falcon capabilities over time. Competitive position rests on the single lightweight agent architecture, a shared threat-graph data model across the installed base, and the breadth of modules that lets the platform displace multiple point tools. Principal rivals include Microsoft Defender, SentinelOne, Palo Alto Networks, and Trend Micro. The United States generates the majority of revenue, with international markets across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Australia forming a growing minority.
