HYBE (352820.KS) Q1 2026: Record ₩698B Revenue as ₩225B RSU Charge Swings to Operating Loss

Record-breaking quarterly revenue and a 22-fold surge in operating cash flow tell a fundamentally different story than the headline operating loss, which is entirely a product of a one-time, non-cash stock compensation charge funded by Chairman Bang Si-hyuk's personal share donation.

Source: Quarterly Report (Q1 FY2026, 22nd Fiscal Year) — Filed May 15, 2026 with DART | Consolidated Financial Statements | Unit: ₩ billions

HYBE's first-quarter results present one of the starkest divergences between reported earnings and underlying cash generation in recent Korean entertainment history. Revenue climbed 39.5% year-over-year to ₩698.4 billion — the highest quarterly top line the company has ever recorded — while operating cash flow surged from ₩6.9 billion to ₩150.3 billion, a roughly 22-fold increase. Yet the income statement shows an operating loss of ₩196.6 billion, a figure driven entirely by a single non-cash line item: ₩224.9 billion in stock-based compensation expense, the bulk of which stems from Chairman Bang Si-hyuk personally donating shares from his own holdings to fund employee incentive grants. Strip that charge out, and HYBE's own official adjusted operating profit stands at ₩58.5 billion. The analytical challenge this quarter is not whether the business is deteriorating — it is not — but rather understanding why the accounting loss and the cash register point in opposite directions, and what the trajectory of that divergence looks like as the vesting tail unwinds in future quarters.
