關於Meta Platforms

Meta Platforms operates the world's largest social networking and messaging ecosystem, monetized almost entirely through advertising. Its Family of Apps segment — Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Threads — generates the overwhelming majority of revenue and effectively all of the company's operating profit by selling targeted advertising placements against billions of daily users. A second segment, Reality Labs, houses the company's virtual and augmented reality hardware, including Quest headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, along with the Horizon software platform; it is a small minority of revenue and has run at a substantial operating loss since its inception. Advertising demand skews toward e-commerce, gaming, consumer packaged goods, and small and mid-sized businesses that rely on Meta's self-serve ad tools.

Investors track the durability of ad targeting under mobile-platform privacy changes, particularly Apple's App Tracking Transparency, and the effectiveness of Meta's AI-driven ranking and measurement work in offsetting signal loss. Regulatory exposure is unusually broad, spanning EU Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act obligations, U.S. and state antitrust litigation, children's-safety statutes, and ongoing scrutiny of cross-border data transfers. Capital allocation is watched closely given the scale of AI infrastructure spending and Reality Labs losses relative to the buyback and dividend program. Governance is defined by founder Mark Zuckerberg's dual-class voting control, which insulates strategic decisions from outside shareholders. Index weight in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 makes the stock a major passive-flow constituent.

The company was founded as Facebook in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with fellow Harvard students, moved to Palo Alto, and took venture funding that year. It listed on Nasdaq in May 2012 in one of the largest technology IPOs to that date. Two transformative acquisitions followed: Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014, each of which became a pillar of the current app family. Oculus was acquired in 2014, seeding the hardware business. In October 2021 the parent was renamed Meta Platforms to signal a long-horizon investment in immersive computing, and the company subsequently reorganized its financial reporting into the Family of Apps and Reality Labs segments it uses today.

Mechanically, Meta sells advertising inventory across feeds, Stories, Reels, in-stream video, Marketplace, and messaging surfaces, priced through real-time auctions on a cost-per-impression or cost-per-action basis. Customers range from individual creators and small businesses running self-serve campaigns to global brands and performance-marketing agencies buying at scale; no single advertiser is material to revenue. Competitive position rests on user reach and engagement across multiple apps, first-party behavioral data, and machine-learning ranking systems that convert that data into measurable ad performance. Principal rivals are Google, TikTok's parent ByteDance, Amazon's advertising business, and Snap. Revenue is geographically diversified, with the United States and Canada contributing the highest average revenue per user and Europe and Asia-Pacific supplying the bulk of user growth.
