關於FedEx

FedEx Corporation is a global transportation and logistics holding company built around the movement of packages, freight and documents. Its Express segment operates the world's largest express air network, moving time-definite parcels across borders through hub-and-spoke sorting facilities. Ground handles small-package deliveries within North America, using a contracted operator model rather than direct employee drivers, and has historically been the group's most profitable segment on a margin basis. Freight, a less-than-truckload carrier, serves the heavier North American shipment market. A Services unit provides sales, marketing and information technology across the operating companies. End markets skew toward business-to-business shipping, e-commerce fulfillment, healthcare logistics and international trade lanes.

Serious holders track the Drive cost-reduction program and the multi-year Network 2.0 consolidation of Express and Ground pickup and delivery operations, since network integration determines the terminal margin structure. Labor is a persistent variable: Express pilots are unionized, and the independent contractor status of Ground route operators has drawn periodic litigation and regulatory scrutiny. The company carries a large fleet of aircraft and vehicles, so capital expenditure discipline, fleet retirement decisions and fuel exposure matter to cash conversion. Concentration on the United States Postal Service air cargo contract, since ended, illustrates how single-customer relationships can reshape economics. Governance features include a founder-linked board legacy and an active buyback and dividend program.

Frederick W. Smith founded the company as Federal Express, launching overnight air service in 1973 from a Memphis hub built around the hub-and-spoke concept he had articulated as a Yale undergraduate. Deregulation of air cargo in 1977 allowed larger aircraft and rapid network expansion. The holding company FedEx Corporation was formed in 1998 to house the 1998 acquisition of trucking group Caliber System, which brought RPS, later rebranded FedEx Ground. Kinko's was acquired in 2004 and subsequently divested as FedEx Office. TNT Express of the Netherlands was purchased in 2016, expanding European road and air density. In 2024 the company announced plans to spin off FedEx Freight as a separate public company.

Revenue comes from shippers paying per-shipment rates that combine base freight charges with fuel surcharges, dimensional weight assessments and accessorial fees for residential delivery, signature service, oversize handling and Saturday operations. Large enterprise accounts sign multi-year contracts with negotiated discounts tied to volume commitments, while small businesses and consumers pay list rates through retail counters, digital tools and third-party platforms. Competitive position rests on network density, on-time reliability, customs clearance capability and the breadth of the international air fleet. The principal rivals are United Parcel Service in domestic parcel, DHL Express in international air, and the increasingly insourced logistics arm of Amazon. The United States generates most revenue, with international lanes contributing a substantial minority.
