關於Diamondback Energy
Diamondback Energy is an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company focused almost entirely on the Permian Basin of West Texas, principally the Midland sub-basin with a growing footprint in the Delaware sub-basin. Its business consists of acquiring, developing, and producing unconventional onshore crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids from horizontal wells drilled through stacked shale intervals such as the Wolfcamp and Spraberry formations. Crude oil accounts for the bulk of revenue and the dominant share of profit, with natural gas and NGLs contributing a smaller minority. Diamondback also owns a controlling interest in Viper Energy, a publicly traded mineral and royalty subsidiary, and holds midstream infrastructure interests that support gathering, water handling, and takeaway from its acreage.
Investors track the durability of Diamondback's Permian inventory and the pace at which it is being drawn down, since the company's valuation rests heavily on the depth and quality of undrilled locations. Commodity price cyclicality is the dominant swing factor, alongside well productivity, service cost inflation, and takeaway capacity out of the basin. Capital allocation policy is closely watched: management has committed to returning a substantial portion of free cash flow to shareholders through a base dividend, a variable dividend, and buybacks, which makes the payout mix sensitive to oil prices. Governance features include the separate Viper structure, exposure to federal and Texas regulation of methane, flaring, produced water, and drilling permits, and the company's index membership.
Diamondback was founded in 2007 by Travis Stice and colleagues and completed its initial public offering on the Nasdaq in 2012 as a pure-play Permian operator. Over the following decade it grew primarily through a sequence of acquisitions that consolidated Midland and Delaware acreage, notably the 2018 purchases of Energen and Ajax Resources and the 2021 acquisition of QEP Resources and Guidon Energy assets. In 2014 it created Viper Energy Partners to hold mineral interests, later restructuring it into a corporation. The transformational combination with Endeavor Energy Resources, closed in 2024, roughly doubled the company's Midland Basin scale and cemented its position as one of the largest independent Permian producers.
Diamondback sells crude oil, natural gas, and NGLs at or near the wellhead to midstream gatherers, marketers, and refiners, generally under contracts priced against benchmark indices such as WTI, Henry Hub, and Mont Belvieu, adjusted for basis differentials specific to Permian delivery points. Realized prices therefore move with global crude markets and with the availability of pipeline capacity from West Texas to Gulf Coast export and refining hubs. Competitive position rests on low per-barrel operating and drilling costs, contiguous acreage that supports long horizontal laterals, and scale in water and infrastructure. Its main peers include ExxonMobil's Pioneer-anchored Permian unit, Occidental, ConocoPhillips, EOG Resources, and Coterra, with revenue almost entirely sourced from U.S. domestic sales.
