關於DexCom

Dexcom designs, manufactures, and distributes continuous glucose monitoring systems for people with diabetes, and the company is effectively a single-product franchise built around that sensor platform. Its flagship G-series and Stelo lines consist of a small disposable sensor worn on the body that transmits interstitial glucose readings to a receiver, a smartphone, or an insulin-delivery pump. Revenue is dominated by recurring sales of disposable sensors rather than one-time hardware, giving the business a consumable razor-and-blade profile. End markets split between intensive insulin users, primarily people with type 1 and insulin-treated type 2 diabetes, and a growing over-the-counter channel aimed at type 2 patients not on insulin and general wellness users. Sensor sales drive the bulk of profit.

Investors track a defined set of durable questions. Reimbursement policy through the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, commercial payers, and pharmacy-benefit channels shapes both pricing and addressable population, and any coverage change ripples across the model. Competitive dynamics with Abbott's FreeStyle Libre franchise, and to a lesser extent Medtronic and Senseonics, set unit pricing and gross margin trajectory. Integration relationships with insulin-pump makers, particularly Insulet, Tandem, and Beta Bionics, concentrate a meaningful share of pump-channel volume. Other structural considerations include FDA regulatory exposure on each sensor iteration, manufacturing scale-up execution at Arizona and Malaysia facilities, foreign-exchange translation, stock-based compensation intensity, and governance features typical of an S&P 500 medical-device constituent.

Dexcom was founded in 1999 in San Diego, California, and completed its initial public listing on Nasdaq in 2005. The early business commercialized short-duration implantable sensors before pivoting to the transcutaneous platform that became the modern product line. Successive sensor generations, including the STS, Seven, G4, G5, G6, G7, and the extended-wear G8 in development, each expanded accuracy, wear time, and smartphone integration, transforming the company from a niche endocrinology supplier into a mass-market device maker. The 2024 launch of Stelo, the first over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor cleared in the United States, opened a new adjacent market. Dexcom operates as a single reporting segment headquartered in San Diego, with manufacturing in the United States, Mexico, Ireland, and Malaysia.

Mechanically, Dexcom sells sensors through two main channels. In the durable medical equipment channel, distributors and specialty pharmacies dispense sensors to patients whose ongoing prescriptions are reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial insurance, with Dexcom recognizing revenue net of rebates and channel discounts. In the pharmacy-benefit channel, which has become the larger share, sensors move through retail and mail-order pharmacies under formulary contracts negotiated with pharmacy-benefit managers. Stelo sells direct-to-consumer online and through retail without a prescription. Competitive position rests on sensor accuracy, wear duration, form factor, and the breadth of insulin-pump and smartphone integrations. The United States generates the majority of revenue, with the balance concentrated in Europe, and smaller contributions from Asia-Pacific, Canada, and Latin America.
