關於Deere & Company
Deere & Company designs, manufactures, and finances agricultural, construction, forestry, and turf equipment sold under the John Deere brand. Its Production and Precision Agriculture segment builds large tractors, combines, planters, sprayers, and the embedded guidance and telematics systems that increasingly define the product, and it typically drives the largest share of operating profit. The Small Agriculture and Turf segment covers utility tractors, hay tools, and lawn equipment for smaller farms and consumers. Construction and Forestry supplies loaders, excavators, dozers, and logging machinery, including the Wirtgen road-building brands. John Deere Financial provides retail financing, leasing, and wholesale credit to dealers and end customers, converting equipment sales into a recurring interest-bearing receivables book.
Holders track the North American large-ag replacement cycle, which swings with farm cash receipts, crop prices, and interest rates, and which historically produces pronounced peaks and troughs in earnings. Dealer inventory discipline, order-book visibility, and used-equipment values are watched closely because they signal turns before shipments do. The captive finance arm concentrates credit risk on the same farm customers who buy the machines, so delinquency trends and residual values matter. Investors also monitor the shift toward precision-agriculture software and subscription revenue, capital returns through buybacks and the dividend, exposure to tariffs and commodity input costs, and antitrust and right-to-repair litigation targeting the closed service ecosystem.
The company traces to an 1837 blacksmith shop in Grand Detour, Illinois, where John Deere produced a self-scouring steel plow suited to prairie soils. It was incorporated in 1868 and moved its base to Moline, Illinois, which remains its headquarters. Entry into the tractor business came with the 1918 acquisition of the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company, and postwar decades brought expansion into construction, forestry, and international manufacturing. A defining recent step was the 2017 purchase of the German road-construction group Wirtgen. Deere today operates as a global manufacturer organized around the three equipment segments plus the financial-services arm, listed on the New York Stock Exchange and included in major U.S. large-cap indices.
Customers are commercial row-crop farmers, livestock producers, independent contractors, forestry operators, municipalities, and homeowners, reached almost entirely through a network of independent franchised dealers rather than direct sales. Machines are typically ordered months ahead through dealer allocations, often financed by John Deere Financial, and revenue is supplemented by parts, service, and a growing stream of precision-agriculture software tied to installed equipment. Competitive position rests on brand loyalty, dealer density, integrated precision technology, and switching costs created by fleet standardization. Principal rivals include CNH Industrial and AGCO in agriculture and Caterpillar and Komatsu in construction. The United States and Canada generate the bulk of sales, with Europe, Brazil, and other markets contributing the remainder.
